The Junior sewing/textile arts program at the Kingwood Branch Library is for students in grades 3 – 5. The success of the Teens Textiles program at the Kingwood Library created a need for a Junior Program. Registration for this program was filled within 2-hours of the the online launch!
At this stage, students will be working on the sewing machine. They will learn to work with the sewing machine and will have the ability to: (Thread a sewing machine, Thread a machine bobbin, Sewing straight lines, Sewing curved lines, Sew Zig-Zag stitches, and more!)
This class is designed to give instant gratification to students in their first few classes. Simple programs are used to give confidence to the students. On the first day of class, students are usually able to finish a project and take it home. After the first month of instant gratification, students are weaned off simple projects and gradually begin receiving bigger and more complicated projects to work on. By the time the students are at second stage of this program, their confidence in using the machine and making small items encourages them to have patience for the larger more complicated items. online launch.
Many students in this program will design and make garments to wear in our organizations annual fashion show at the Children’s Museum of Houston.
