Girl Scouts Embrace Creativity Shell
Will partner to host sewing/textile arts workshops for badges!
The San Jacinto Girl Scouts has partnered with nonprofit organization, the Creativity Shell to offer specialized sewing/textile arts workshops for Houston Girl Scouts!
The Creativity Shell is on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire earth’s most precious resources…our kids! Through sponsorships, fundraising and donations, the organization is aiming to teach trades such as sewing/textile arts to kids so they can think creatively and learn practical lifelong skills.
Girl Scouts attending the sewing/textile arts workshops will learn sewing/textile arts skills taught by textile professionals employed by the Creativity Shell. Students will learn machine-sewing skills, vocational fashion skills such as up cycling as well as textile arts such as fabric dyeing.
FABRIC DYEING/TEXTILE ARTS
The fabric dyeing/textile class is a fantastic class that teaches students about natural and synthetic textiles. Students will learn various aspects of textile arts such as batik dyeing, natural dyes, ombré dyeing, screen-printing and more. At the end of this class, students will be able to manipulate the colors and patterns in fabrics. They will also learn about the various types of dyes that are necessary to dye different types of fibers.
Junior, Senior and Ambassador Scouts attending the Creativity shell sewing/textile arts workshops will receive their textile badge. At this time, the workshops will be on October 8, 2016 & November 12, 2016 at the Program Place for Girls in Houston. Interested scouts and troupes, please contact Nazia Frank nfrank@sjgs.org for more information.
