Creativity Shell Kicks Off Sewing Classes at Tony’s Place!

It what would be a first of it’s kind in Houston, the Creativity Shell is launching a weekly sewing/textile arts class at drop in center for LGBT youth, Tony’s Place!

The Creativity Shell is a nonprofit organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers. The organization currently teaches sewing/textile arts classes at local schools, public libraries and shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking.

The sewing/textile arts classes offer at Tony’s place are structured and FREE for homeless LGBT youths in Houston. The Creativity Shell will provide the sewing machines, dedicated teachers and structured projects for students to complete week after week. Some of the items students can look forward to creating are waterproof pillow bags, hats, blankets and other products that can be used by the students until they find permanent housing. The Creativity Shell also plans to partner with a sewing machine mechanic that can come to classes routinely to teach students to repair broken machines.

Upon completion of a 12-week course, the Creativity Shell hopes to inspire students to pursue a career or education in fashion, design, manufacturing or another skilled trade.

The Sewing/textile arts classes at Tony’s place begin on Monday, January 16th 2017 at 12PM. There will be a small ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the beginning of this wonderful endeavor! Tony’s place is located at 3611 Montrose Blvd, Houston, TX 77006.
